Three Springs of New Dominion Maryland
Oldtown, Maryland

Who We Are

Established in 1981, Three Springs New Dominion Maryland is located on a 330-acre site in Oldtown, Maryland. The outdoor therapeutic residential program serves male residents between the ages of 11 and 18 years who experience emotional, behavioral, and learning issues.

The program operates year-round during which time youth are taught to take positive control of their lives, realize their self-worth and develop self-confidence and motivation while living in a serene, natural setting devoid of modern distractions.

How We Help

Treatment

New Dominion Maryland is designed to treat adolescents with primary diagnoses of:

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Conduct Disorder
  • Depression
  • Adjustment Disorder
  • ADHD

Learning Disabilities

The program utilizes a group process treatment model incorporating positive peer interaction, experiential and adventure-based outdoor activities and individualized academic instruction.

Group process is the primary therapeutic intervention offered to maximize lasting change; however, New Dominion School recognizes the need for additional therapeutic measures and uses them as a part of overall comprehensive services.

Daily group meetings provide students with help and support from their peers in order to learn acceptable behavior, to express emotions appropriately and to resolve problems productively.

Recovery Dynamics (substance abuse groups) and sexual awareness/abuse groups are offered as needed. Individual and family counseling services are also available to students. A consulting, licensed psychologist is also available as needed.

Education

New Dominion School provides educational opportunities for students, who have not succeeded in previous academic settings, to catch up to their peers.

Students may repeat previously failed subjects, take credit courses to attain desired grade placement, improve basic academic skills, pursue a Maryland High School diploma via the GED preparation curriculum or work toward a New Dominion High School diploma.

Students begin the academic program immediately upon admission to Three Springs New Dominion Maryland and participate in a Monday-Friday course schedule including English, math, social studies and science.

In addition to academic lessons students engage in experiential courses in physical education, life skills, sociology/citizenship and health.

New Dominion School students benefit from a low student/teacher ratio and small class size. Classes rarely exceed ten students.

Our Greatest Strength

Located in the rural hills of western Maryland, Three Springs New Dominion Maryland is considered a naturally secure program. Our residents are not confined within locked buildings or behind barred windows.

Groups of boys live at campsites, which they build. Group campsites are located within a quarter-mile of the central administrative area, nursing suite, school, shower house, laundry facility and dining hall.

Each living site is autonomous and is comprised of student-designed structures for sleeping, dining, cooking, personal hygiene and group meetings.

A high-and-low ropes course and numerous other athletic/recreational areas are strategically located throughout the campus for easy access by students and staff.
