How We Help
Young men referred to this program typically have been diagnosed with:
- Paraphilia
- Conduct disorder, depressive disorders, mood disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse disorders, and adjustment disorder.
Our mission is the healing and restoration of children and their families. Every resource at our disposal is directed toward this purpose. Our efforts are always governed by the principles of honor, respect, teamwork, responsibility, accountability and honesty.
Our goal is to reduce the risk that youth in our care commmitting a recidivist sexual offense or act out sexually in a manner that may harm others or themselves, and to return and reintegrate these boys in the community.
Resident’s goals are to:
- Eliminate criminal and inappropriate behaviors, develop pro-social values, and to develop skills necessary to become productive, contributing members of society
- Fully develop academic, vocational, social and personal potential
- Develop sensitivity to the impact of their behavior on others and to accept full responsibility for their behavior
- Gain a sense of mastery and control in life, acquire a positive self image, and develop the ability to be empathetic and caring
- Work with others within norms and standards to achieve goals and to help others to succeed
- Recognize negative influence and develop self discipline and control, as well as problem solving and decision making and coping skills, and work to develop relationship-building skills
Our clinical focus is on teaching responsibility, recognition of cognitive distortions and related cycles of destructive behavior, and in developing empathy, impulse control and relapse prevention planning.
Treatment
The children in our care are required to progress through four phases of treatment over the course of a 12-month (minimum) stay.
- During Phase I the boys must make a complete disclosure of any history of sexual offending or acting out.
- During Phase II they are taught basic principles and are given the tools necessary to modify cognition and, in turn, behavior. When this skill set is thoroughly understood the youth may advance.
- During Phase III the boys must demonstrate integration of the aforementioned skill set on a daily basis and for an extended period of time while in a controlled setting.
- During Phase IV they begin to practice these skills in a less structured environment. It is during this time that the focus shifts to Relapse Prevention Planning as the treatment team prepares the boys to be returned to the community. This often includes transitioning into a step-down program.
A key element of the Three Springs of Mountain Home treatment program is the use of Positive Peer Culture.
Positive Peer Culture (PPC) empowers residents to make changes by learning from each other, to improve social skills and help them become positive leaders of their peers. Adolescents tend to listen to each other more than to adults and the PPC promotes behavior modification wherein youth challenge and change each other with the supervision and guidance of program staff.
Why We Are Different
Our program is different form other secure residential treatment facilities because our treatment team is capable of creating individualized plans for younger residents (ages 10-14) at our Trinities Program. The team can also work to accommodate the specialized needs of lower-functioning boys and those with serious emotional disturbances.
Education
Three Springs of Mountain Home School is a private, accredited academic institution staffed by certified teachers from local schools. All residents attend classes with the option of earning a high school diploma or GED, while also receiving vocational training.
Our Greatest Strength
Our residents are our greatest strength. Although the boys with whom we work are often considered negatively by the general public and viewed in the same light as adult sex offenders, the reality is the vast majority of are residents are just kids. By treating their needs now while they are juveniles we are able to redirect them so as not to grow up to be adult offenders, and help them to experience childhood as other children do.
