Teenage drug and alcohol abuse, like other types of at-risk youth behaviors, can be a symptom of deeper problems. Many children begin experimenting with drugs and alcohol because of a sense of hopelessness, turning to these substances as an escape from daily life.

A teenager who uses drugs and/or alcohol, and who has substance abuse issues, can have a devastating effect on a family. Like any parent dealing with this issue, you are understandably concerned, even frightened about your child's welfare.

Your worries are warranted: Drug and alcohol use can be a starting point that leads adolescents into increasingly dangerous behavior.

Focusing on What Causes Substance Abuse Issues in Teens

At Three Springs, we do not discount the seriousness of a child using drugs or alcohol. However, we recognize that it is important to look beneath the usage and focus on the cause. Our therapeutic treatment programs are designed to help teens understand and work through the deeper issues that can lead to behavioral problems like substance abuse issues.

You may be wondering if residential programs are the best option for your child, and for your family. Our Three Springs referral coordinators are available to help you understand if a Three Springs program might be right for your teen.

While we are not a teen treatment program designed for children who are clinically addicted (needing medical care), many of the children enrolled in a Three Springs programs do have drug and alcohol issues as a secondary diagnosis.

All of our programs involve extensive substance abuse treatment group work around drug and alcohol abuse, and many of the residents attend Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings regularly.
